“Women can make a difference”, Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the UN General Assembly for the 73rd Session, believes. Being only the fourth female holding such a responsible position, she argues that women in politics regard the world in a specific way, so they tend to promote particular fields like healthcare, social security, or quality education. “It is very important to take female positions into account. We need to have more women as peacemakers and the mediators in settlement processes”, she says.
